Dr. Nava Sevilla-Sadeh

Art researcher, curator and lecturer, holder of a Bachelor’s, Master’s & Ph.D. degree in Art History, from Tel Aviv University. Specialized in Classical Arts as part of her doctoral training, researching the cultural, literary and philosophical aspects of Roman-era mosaics that showcase mythological themes. Her Master’s thesis was based on research carried out on the images of Mars and Venus in Roman sculpture, comparing them analytically to images in classical Greek sculpture.
Fields of Research Interest: Classical Reception Studies – aesthetic perceptions and classical values and their influence on contemporary culture and art; Illusion and mimesis in art; Mythology and its exegesis; Religion and spiritual perceptions in art in the classical world; Gender and social identity, and their expression in art in the classical world; The history of aesthetics.
Teaches Art History and The Language of Art, as well as the Methodology of Art Instruction and Education in the department of art history at Tel Aviv University; is involved in education and curatorial work for the Municipality of Hod Hasharon; works as a private curator.

As a field rooted in art research, curating is an experiential journey to a work of art, an in-depth analysis of its influence, value and methods of expression, which reflect the artist’s individuality. This principle finds expression in plotting a conceptual perception, which is the source for titling the exhibition, writing the article (either independently, or for the catalogue), selecting the works, positioning them in a harmonious way and ensuring conceptual and aesthetic compatibility.
